Let’s clear a few things up:
1: Trump appointed Elon Musk to head a department that was created by Obama. They changed the name to DOGE – but it’s been there for a while. It’s purpose was to audit government spending.
2: Musk has a Top Secret Clearance. Elon’s position is not elected – the percentage of government employees that are actually elected is .017%. Also – that position does not and has never needed congressional approval. It’s a presidential appointment.
3: Musk has no access to any money. He can’t take it, stop it, move it, or pay anything other than being responsible for payroll for his agency.
4: During the audit process, Trump has ordered a freeze on non-discretionary outlays of money from the Treasury Department. These payments are not stopped or cancelled, it’s just paused. Once the audit is done, the merits of the projects and payments will be reviewed and the House will have to be invoked in that time to see what’s legitimate and what isn’t.
5: USAID is only the start. Every bureaucracy that has a checkbook falls under the Executive Branch. Every one of these falls under the purview of the Chief Executive Officer (Trump). He has the right (and honestly the duty) to manage these bureaucracies to assure that they are working for the benefit of the American people. He’s doing that.
6: The biggest question now that these questionable programs with huge price tags are being brought to the attention through the transparency of DOGE office is – are any of those big dollar programs actually fronts to divert some or all of the money somewhere else? And if so – WHERE (or to WHOM?). Our worry is, of course, that it’s being directed to bureaucrats, politicians, political parties, or worse yet – those that want to harm us!
7: Musk will be recused from auditing NASA and one other department because he has business interest getting government contract money for those business.
So USAID is a small start to a big project. Auditing the US books. It’s going to get interesting. Especially when we get to the Pentagon.
Hope that helps
