This is a good read. He’s talking about the article in the Washington Times about LaHood wanting the  communist approval process like the Chinese.

Ah, it’s fun when the mask slips

That’s when you know things are working like they’re supposed to.

Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood on what it’s like work for the government in Beijing, er, Washington, the District of Columbia:

“The Chinese are more successful [in building infrastructure] because in their country, only three people make the decision. In our country, 3,000 people do, 3 million. In a country where only three people make the decision, they can decide where to put their rail line, get the money, and do it. We don’t do it that way in America.”

Yep. Just like it’s supposed to be, Mr. LaHood. The Founders had some experience with “streamlined” governance along those lines and deliberately set about frustrating it. Because power wants to have it’s way, even when it perceives itself as benign. Of course, the people being run roughshod over for the benefit of other people don’t always perceive the benignity, so the Founders (and their fellow-travelers in the years following) built in some brakes on the Will to Power.
